In 1 Chronicles 21, we can read that King David requested his commanders of the troops to count the fighting men of Israelites, and report back to him so he may know how many, the fighting men of Israel were.
Joab, one of the commanders King David summoned, was uncomfortable with this and questioned his motive for this census, but the King’s word prevailed; so, Joab and the other commanders left and went throughout Israel and counted the fighting men of Israel.
God was angered but this action of King David.
Since King David do not want to fall into the hands of his enemies, God punished King David by permitting a three-day plague to come upon Israel. Three days was not yet over, 70,000 men of Israel has died already because of the plague. Being the all-merciful God, our God is, He commanded the Angel, who is in control of this plague, to stop, and withdraw the plague from Israel.
So why did an all-merciful God, angered by this simple act of inventory?
The Eternal God got angry because King David put his faith on his assets rather than to Him. King David was worried of falling into the hands of his enemies… His belief is that the more fighting men he has, the more secured he would be, but the lesser fighting men he has, the less secured he would be. God got angry with King David, that He deducted 70,000 from what makes him feel secure.
Like King David during that time, today’s people think that the more assets that they have, monetary or property, the more secured or stable they would be; but what they are not aware of, is that, God would permit an economic collapse to happen, months before the Great Day of The Warning; God would let this happen, so people would realize to put their faith and trust to the Eternal God, rather than the assets that they are bound to lose…
